Daksha Fellows go on a surfing trip!

Following a fantastic adventure weekend in Puducherry, Daksha Fellows indulged in some water sports activities as part of an outbound program organized by Mr. Philips Stanley, Registrar, Sai University. The young fellows took to the sea and enjoyed the ride as they tried their hand at surfing and kayaking at Kovalam beach near Chennai.

Before venturing into the water, they had a chance to take in the beautiful view of the ocean for a few minutes and also got to know some useful information about water sports activities. Surfing is a water sport wherein a person rides a wave on a board in an upright or prone position. Surfers ideally glide across the water surface and ‘catch the wave’ until they reach the shore. Kayaking, on the other hand, is another adventure sport in which people sitting in a canoe-like-boat, wade through waters using double-bladed paddles.

At Kovalam, the fellows learned the ropes of both surfing and kayaking from a trained professional, before their adventure.

Here is what Daksha fellow Brinda had to say about the day:

“By far the best day of this year would be the day we went surfing! All thanks to Mr. Phillips we were introduced to this new adventure in the water that enlivened us. I was always under the assumption that surfing would be an impossible sport for me but by the support of my peers and Sir I decided to try my hand at it. The waves taught me that the adrenaline rush of the unknown must be balanced with the simultaneous mental peace, focus and alertness that must be kept so as to successfully stand on the surfboard. After surfing we continued our energy rush by involving ourselves into kayaking. It was beautiful as we rowed in the beautiful back waters and had a great view of the sea and birds. The day ended with a perfect cup of tea and a perfect sunset. A great experience , a lot of learning and a day full of joy!”

Here are some snapshots from the outing!
