Daksha fellows enjoy an adventurous weekend getaway

Daksha fellows took part in numerous adventurous activities at a recent outbound trip

From cheetah climbs to crocodile walks, from roaming around beaches to shopping at the busy streets of Puducherry, Daksha Fellows recently had a weekend to remember. Even as they learn to tackle important legal questions by the day, they went on to moonlight as adventurists during the weekend, thanks to an outdoors ‘nature trip’ organized for the fellows by the management of Daksha Fellowship. The trip was planned by Philips Stanley, Registrar, Sai University, who is an adventurist himself. “

The weekend kicked off with a night stay at a rustic campsite near the famed Bird sanctuary Vedanthangal, near Chennai, where the Fellows got to experience what it is like to live amongst nature first-hand. They had an immersive experience at the remote campsite that proved to be a perfect spot to experience a lifestyle that is (relatively) untouched by pollution.

With a roaring campfire for company, the fellows indulged in some singing and dancing that was all about fun, rest and relaxation. Moving away from civilization, our fellows had a chance to rely on team spirit and human bonding with no interruptions from technology. The campfire evening ended with students finding accommodations in pitched tents and the bare earth as mattresses, yet another unique experience for many.

After a good night’s sleep, students took part in obstacle training and adventure activities like cheetah climbs, crocodile walks, Burma bridge which tested their team spirit and helped them understand their strengths and weaknesses. Even as they tried to make their way through all the activities, they bonded as a team and figured out ingenious ways to get going. These activities are not just designed to encourage participants to get out of their comfort zones, but also to give them a platform to work towards a common goal that is not just about their profession.

Then it was onwards to Puducherry, where the day was spent roaming the vibrant streets of Pondy and tasting its unique multicultural cuisine.  This trip for Daksha fellows was all about finding the right balance between work and leisure. As much as we like our students to perform their best at the Fellowship program, we also understand that it is important for them to build life skills in a fun and relaxing manner. And what better way to make that happen than with a rustic and adventurous getaway!

Here’s what the students had to say about the outbound trip:

I had a great experience at the outbound programme of Daksha. The campsite was the best part of the trip. It was nice to bond with nature and live in between greenery. For the activities it was brilliant to take part as a team. – Reuben Abraham

It has really helped us strengthen our bond as a cohort. Especially the obstacle course made me understand how if we work as a team, anything in this world is possible. I’m also so glad to have had the time to relax for a while and really want to thank you and Daksha for the same. Looking forward to more such interesting excursions. –  Himeli Chatterjee
